Scientists have been studying the effects of food on the brain for hundreds of years. It has been proven that healthy eating is the basis for a healthy brain. Right before a big test, it is more important than ever to eat healthy and satisfying foods to produce optimum brain power. When you need to pass those hard tests and exams, try these brain boosters:
Seeds and Nuts
Seeds and nuts, especially walnuts and flaxseed, pack a huge Omega-3 punch. Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial to cognitive brain functions. But, these delicious little morsels also provide fiber, which help maintain health in a variety of ways. Eat a handful of walnuts during the drive to the test-taking facility, or bring along some nuts and seeds for a snack.
Salmon
There is a lot of scientific evidence that shows Omega-3 fatty acids really do feed your brain. Salmon is one of the highest natural sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, which really helps cognitive function. The night before the big GMAT prep course, the SATs, or any other important exam, eat a healthy Salmon dinner.
Blueberries
Blueberries contain antioxidants that help reverse age-related cognitive functions like memory loss. Not only a delicious pie filling, blueberries are also a brain-booster. Researchers have shown that people who include a cup of blueberries in their daily diet perform 5 to 6 percent better on motor skills tests than those that do not eat blueberries.
High Fat Foods
A September 2009 study surprised many when it revealed that eating a high-fat diet for four to seven days prior to taking an important test can have a positive impact on performance. So, go ahead, put some gravy on those mashed potatoes and butter up that bread because it will help with quick decision-making, short term memory, and multi-tasking functions, which are essential when taking a GMAT prep course or any important test.
While food isn’t the only factor contributing to your performance it can help boost your energy and brain function significantly which can give you that crucial edge.
