School mornings can be chaotic and crazy with kids getting ready for school, parents getting ready for work, and everyone having to be out the door at the same time. This often leads to temper tantrums, and tears. In order to get your day off to a good start without feeling like pulling your hair out you need to use some tried and true strategies.
First of all, you need to plan ahead. There are several things that can be done the night before. Backpacks can be completely packed with homework and all other school necessities, and put near the door. Check them to make sure everything that should be in it, is in it. Make lunches the night before as well. If they need to be refrigerated, make sure they are easy to grab an put in the backpacks in the morning.
Planning clothing choices should also be done the night before. Make sure that items are clean and laid out so the decision does not have to be made in the morning.
It can also be difficult to get kids out of bed and motivated in the morning. It is often a good strategy to have school ages children get themselves up. Set an alarm clock for them and make them responsible for getting up and getting dressed. It is also helpful for the parents to get up earlier and be dressed an ready before the kids get up. If you are organized yourself, it is much easier to assist the kids.
A morning routine can be greatly improved just by making sure that kids get enough sleep. If they are ready to get out of bed when it is time, they will be much more likely to do what needs to be done without as much of a hassle.
